About this blog

Hi!

I'm Nicolene, and I am a cooking addict; I love spending my free time in the kitchen.
My parents had a big kitchen in a huge house on a farm in South Africa and I spent a lot of time in the kitchen on weekends helping my Mom. It was a place where family & friends often got together.
Having spent my early life in South Africa,  France has become home to me for the last 30 years+, but that's another long story and for now I'd just like to share some recipes...
So, as I was saying, I love cooking and baking, spending weekends in my kitchen... chopping, slicing and creating are enjoyable and relaxing moments.
I started this blog to be able to share some of my favourite recipes with friends and family. Some of the dishes are old time favourites, tried & tested, recipes from friends, family, from countries where I've lived or adapted from an existing recipe.
I hope that you will enjoy making some of the 'delishes' and come back as often as you like to see what's new!
Since 2018, we have moved to the country and we have started a potager. I now use our own home grown herbs and some veggies in some of the recipes. A garden is a lot of work, but very rewarding. There is so much pleasure to be had when you eat your own produce. Everything tastes so different, so humble. There are also more veggie recipes, as we're evolving towards a plant based diet and on the whole it has not been a difficult choice and if there is a craving for meat, we tend to choose poultry or rabbit. Also, due to dietary requirements, sugar in some recipes is reduced as well as low or no sodium in others, so go ahead and adjust the quantities to suit your needs/taste...

Bon appétit! Enjoy your meal! Smaaklike ete! Buen apetito!
