Doughnuts

Makes about 20 doughnuts.

Ingredients:
  • 6-7 cups of flour
  • 75g melted butter
  • 1 egg
  • 1T vanilla essence
  • 1/2-2 cups of warm milk
  • 20g instant yeast
  • Oil for frying
  • Jam for serving/filling

Method:

In the bowl of a stand mixer, dissolve the yeast in the warm milk and leave for about 5 minutes or until bubbles form. Add the rest of the ingredients and mix with a dough hook until the dough is a smooth ball and no longer sticks to the sides.

Allow to rise, covered in a warm place.

Remove from the bowl onto a large floured surface and roll out the dough into a large square or rectangle (depending on the space you have) of about 1,5cm.

Using cookie cut cutters, cut rounds with a bigger cutter and with a smaller cut out the hole, continue until all the dough is used. Set aside on a floured tray, roll out the dough and continue until all the dough is used. You may also make balls or other fancy shapes 😎

In a shallow non-stick pan, heat up about 2cm of cooking oil, I use rice bran oil, which has a high smoking point, therefore doesn't burn.

Fry the doughnuts on one side, flipping once risen and golden. Place on paper towels to remove excess oil and continue until all doughnuts are done.

Sprinkle with powdered sugar, or fill with jam or whatever you prefer, choose and copy your favourite doughnuts!
